It was a warm and crisp afternoon that had settled in the kingdom today. The golden sun beat down upon the valley with its usual warming strokes as it often did in the springtime, causing all manor of delightful birds and butterflies to flitter about the air. The cool breeze that raced down from the mountain lakes, flowing with the waterfall and along the sparkling river of the kingdom brought with it the fresh scents of lavender and hilly grass into the city of white stone nestled in the arms of the valley walls.

From within the bustling market men and women wandered about the stone paved streets haggling exotic goods and spices from far away lands in the hopes of earning a decent coin, for this city despite its desolate location was a wealthy mercantile hub, and renowned for its beauty. This beauty was not set just in the city of white marble and quartz however, for there was one other treasure the city owned above any other state that all the neighbouring kingdoms revered, the gift of Human beauty.

For perched on high upon a sharp imposing hill overlooking the moderately sized city sat the radiant and tremendously dazzling royal palace. The sparkling clean ivory stone walls stretched a great length in each direction, dotted here and there with some of the finest stained glass of every colour of the rainbow. This splendid display of grandeur was reinforced by the pillars of lapis lazuli periodically placed along the main wall, all of which were embroiled with spirals of gold that twisted up to form fan shaped supports for the overhanging red brick roof. And it was within this resplendent dwelling that the cities true treasure was busy arguing with his father.

Within the grand hall of red carpets and velvet curtains stood a young prince, inexperienced and rebellious in his youth deep in open hostilities with the king. If the sound of a large hog roast platter hitting the far wall after being flung there by said king wasn't enough to convince the various servants and guards that the prince and ruler were feuding again then the bellowing screaming certainly would of. In the epicentre of carnage, displaced food, cowering chamber maids and mildly alarmed palace guards stood the young prince. The usually sweet teens sightly snow white hair waved in time with his radiant blue and white bordered tunic as he threw what had been colloquially dubbed by the palace servants as a Frost tantrum.

The boy was, for all intensive purposes the greatest asset the city had, Born into the royal family to king Nicholas and Queen Toothiana he was swiftly found to be blessed with the beauty of the gods. Even the fairest of maidens from other lands were made to seem unsightly when compared to the stunning pulchritudinous of Jack Frost I. And yet for all of the power, wealth and beauty the boy held in his sway, behind those legendary icy blue eyes was the pompous and pretentious mind of a nine year old prankster, even the court jester refused to perform for the royal family after Jack's antics.

And this was the latest in a long series of arguments that had boiled over between the heir and the king, however this particular scalding was not to do with Jack's behaviour, but his unwillingness to take a bride, something that king Nicholas was on an indefatigable campaign to change.

"Jack! For the last time there are no more! The women that we selected are the finest and most beautiful in the land, there are none more than what you have seen!"

"I don't want them father!"

Another platter flew across the room, this time it was apples that were slingshot into the walls with one impacting the shield of a palace guard stood at attention by a doorway.

"Why not!? Are they not beautiful!? All have pledged themselves to you, should you choose them, SO CHOOSE! You can have blonde, redhead, brunette, tall, small, younger than you, older than you, richer than you, poorer than you, smarter, stupider, big tits, small tits, small arse, cute arse, fat arsed and long faced like a mule for all I care... JUST PICK ONE FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS!"

"It's not that father! they're all... very beautiful."

"Then what is it!? Can't decide? I had same problem with your mother, or rather before your mother..."

"No it isn't that, any of them would do I just... I don't want them!"

"WHY!?"

"I... I can't... AAARRRRG.!"

The prince threw his arms up into the air wildly as his voice echoed around the royal chamber.

"Well, no worries anyway. By tomorrow it won't matter."

Jack's face screwed up at that off hand and odd remark causing him to pursue it with his father.

"What do you mean 'won't matter'?"

"Well, as you are clearly still a child, and incapable of making ANY kind of decision by yourself, I have hired for you a personal bodyguard and trainer."

"A trainer!?"

"That's right. Don't be mistaken Jack I consider him an overpaid, over qualified babysitter. He will go where you go, do what you do and be where you be. He will teach you how to fight, how to ride, how to rule and how to be an adult."

"You can't do that!"

"Oh I can, I'm the king and your father, and if you don't like it, then you should hurry up and pick a wife so she can follow you everywhere rather than some sweaty, grouchy, pig faced and overbearing knight in rusty armour!"

Jack wanted to make a swift retort but lost his patience very fast and proceeded to storm off in the direction of the palaces rear much to his father's displeasement.

"Jack! Where do you think you're going!"

"I'm going for a walk in the gardens, I would appreciate it if I remain undisturbed."

With that dry and cold remark Jack stormed out of the grand hall, waving a hand to his personal guard in the process as a silent order for them to remain rooted where they were. Now left alone in the hall North paced up and down vigorously mumbling incoherently to himself, once or twice he would glare over to the concerned guards who would jump to attention on the spot whenever their monarch made eye contact. Finally after a solid five minutes of the monotonous thumping of the king's feet echoing about the chamber the man broke the peace with his deep rumbling voice, all be it much more reined in than a few moments ago.

"Will someone clean this mess up."

From the far corners of the room came running a small platoon of servants and handmaidens scooping up the food contents and taking them away to be disposed of, it was at this point that one of the higher class servants, the palace squire came running from the main doors with a message. The man bowed respectfully before speaking.

"Your highness, erm, as you may or may not recall you requested that my humble self endeavour to find a personal trainer, slash bodyguard, slash babysitter, slash-"

"Cut to the point Venus."

"Oh, erm, well the one you requested, that came highly recommended, the one from the north, well, he's on his way up now from the city, climbing the steps of the palace as we speak."

North violently gripped his squire by each arm jovially.

"AH HA! Finally, good news! Send him in as soon as he gets here."

"Oh erm, yes your grace."

The squire quickly scuttled off towards the main door leaving North in the room that looked like a battle had taken place at a banquette, with little to do but wait the king sat upon his red cushioned throne and straightened out his gold and diamond encrusted crown awaiting the knights entry.

It was a long while, a solid ten minutes before the grand hall doors opened and the sun cast in the hazy outline of the man North was waiting for. The rattle of plate armour was unmistakable as the knight made his way down the hall, the shimmering reflection of a longsword clearly girded at the mans left side danced across the walls as he marched towards the throne. Only at the point when the palace guards put themselves between him and king Nicholas did the knight finally stop, the young freckled face remained silent under his head of unruly brown hair as he bowed respectfully. He stayed a moment bowing before lifting his emerald eyes up to gaze at king Nicholas before speaking for the first time in naisily but respectful tone to the ruler.

"Your majesty."

Jack, now much calmer than before wandered through the gardens leisurely by himself as he let the afternoon sun bask his pale ivory skin. The boy absent mindedly swaggered along the peach stone pathway that weaved through the countless pink leaved cherry trees and floral delights of the royal botanical gardens. The prince found an odd serenity in nature, or perhaps it was the joy of being alone without armed escort that made Jack so happy whenever he wandered the gardens. Either way the prince did not care, he was away from his father and the responsibilities of ruling. Honestly the prospect of running the kingdom wasn't overly intimidating, what was for Jack was the requirement for a prince to take a wife before accepting the crown.

Jack knew the reason, the real reason why he couldn't pick any of the possible wives that had offered themselves to him, but obviously there wasn't much he could do about it. The prince had spent many days inside the palace library searching the books for what might be some kind of cure for what his heart seemed afflicted with, or at least a treatment, but all of his endeavours were in vain. The reality of his situation often brought Jack to despair, many nights he would stay awake in the most intolerable state of loneliness, knowing full well that there was nothing anyone could do for him, well, any woman at least. It was a vicious cycle that often brought tears to the princes otherwise perfect eyes, eyes that now welled up, but only because of the flowers he told himself, but these thoughts of self denial were fast dispelled as the boy heard the heavy steps and rattling of a man wearing armour close behind him, obviously one of the guards didn't hear his prior orders.

"I told you I do not wish to be disturbed, be gone guard."

Jack didn't even bother to turn and face the man behind him but instead began to peacock swiftly in the opposite direction expecting his orders to be followed, instead of silence and slowly fading clunking steps however the prince received a most dry reply from the stranger.

"I'm afraid I'm not one of your guards, so I can't do that my prince."

Jack furrowed his brows and turned furiously towards the man behind him expecting to see the standard palace soldier, it was in fact anything but that. What stood before the prince was a young and strapping man, barely in his early twenties by Jack's guess smiling with the most defusing and cheeky smirk fathomable. The gentleman's all black plate armour was tightly fit to the muscular mans frame save for the biceps which remained exposed showing the strangers more than respectable physical prowess, a feature empowered by the considerable height advantage he had over the prince. His eyes shone in the sunlight an emerald green and were fixed into a head of sweetly shapen features that were dotted with freckles and a scar under the chin. Jack's face dropped for a moment in confusion, with just a hint of astoundment at the man's dashing appearance, and then hardened as he scrunched up his eyes and called out in distress swiftly.

"GUARDS! GUARDS! Your prince is in peril!"

Within a mere twelve seconds the garden was heaving with at least thirty men at arms, all pointing their weapons at the stranger who casually smiled with his eyes closed and kept a soft, leisurely hand resting on the pommel of his sword. The guards kept their weapons pointed for only a few moments before lowering them, much to the surprise of the prince.

"Guards, what are you doing? Who is this man?"

"By king Nicholas' order your highness, this is your new personal knight and bodyguard."

Said knight and bodyguard bowed respectfully to the white haired boy before raising and introducing himself.

"Sir Hiccup Haddock the Third sire, at your service and discretion."

Jack's face grew mildly irate as the palace guards returned to their posts leaving the two alone in the warm sunlight of the palace gardens.

"At my service, sir Haddock?"

"Yes my prince."

"I hereby order you to remove yourself from the palace and my presence at once."

"Unfortunately my prince I cannot, king Nicholas' word overrides yours and he has given me explicit orders that I am to remain by your side until he orders otherwise."

"I will pay you, knight."

"Your father is already paying me a substantial sum your highness."

"I can double it."

"Coin is not a vice of mine your grace."

Jack tried to think of something that might persuade the man to leave, eventually he thought of the countless tarts that were trying to court his approval for marriage and attempted to use them as leverage.

"I can offer you women."

The knight only chuckled to himself seemingly amused by the smallest of things.

"Women are of even less interest to me my prince."

"Then I'll make you leave... With force if I must."

Sir Haddock raised an eyebrow at that.

"No you won't, your grace."

"Last warning knight, leave."

Hiccup remained fixed to the spot with the same amused smirk on his face, it was then that Jack's face hardened and a mischievous grin crossed it. Without warning the white haired boy charged at Hiccup like a raging bull at full speed, placing his arm between him and the man's chest like a battering ram before impacting the brunette with an audible thud and being flung backwards onto the ground while Sir Haddock remained on the exact spot he was before. Rather than bellow out laughing as Jack expected him to Hiccup just kept grinning and shook his head softly before reaching down and politely offering his hand to the decked prince in a very gentlemanly fashion, an offer Jack reluctantly but gently accepted.
